There are currently 2 really exciting opportunities to join the Croydon Digital Service management team, and I’d love to have a big pile of amazing applications to sift in a couple of weeks’ time!

These are 2 brand new roles that we’ve designed to help us to deliver on our ambition to make Croydon a truly digital council and borough. They’ve been created through a restructuring process, where we replaced a couple of our more traditional ‘IT manager’ posts with 2 new roles for an internet era digital service.

It’s a really exciting time to be joining the council, and especially CDS! We just wrapped up our first year as a Government Digital Service-style organisation, under the actual former head of GOV.UK Neil Williams, which has led to some major organisational redesign within our directorate, meaning we are in the right shape to start delivering real digital change to our residents. 

Being part of the management team means that you’ll be helping shape the service for the future. We are looking for genuine servant/leaders who can build and develop communities of practice around their specialisms. Your role will be less about allocating resources and much more about ensuring everyone in CDS can be the very best they can be.

Product and Delivery Lead – £55,638 to £57,735 + £5,500 market supplement

We’re looking for someone with experience in product and delivery management to take the work we’ve done to reshape our team and its culture over the last 12 months to the next level. This includes embedding digital-age ways of working, building upon our existing OKRs, stand-ups, weeknotes, and blogging, to turn us into a relentless product delivery machine.

You’ll have a team to line manage, but your influence will be felt much wider than that: helping to develop our delivery practice and embed product based and agile (with a small a) approaches to all our work. 

You’ll be up for the challenge of applying digital age ways of working to a broad and diverse portfolio of projects and products, from greenfield digital in-house development using a full agile lifecycle, to more traditional technology rollouts with certain outcomes that benefit from waterfall-based approaches.

Strategic Systems Lead – £55,638 to £57,735 + £5,500 market supplement

To complete our management team, we need someone to lead the strategic roadmap and thinking around our core technology capabilities and line of business systems. 

You’ll be responsible for the teams that we’ve consolidated from around the council that keep our systems running on a day to day basis, working with them and the rest of our management team to help integrate their work with our new multi-disciplinary delivery model.

But you’ll also be forward thinking, working closely with our architects to ensure the systems we use are as good as they can possibly be, planning and delivering new system procurement and implementation where necessary and helping us ensure our technology meets the service standard and technology code of practice.
