Empowering Croydon Council with Figma’s Interactive Prototyping

Find out how Croydon Council uses Figma to improve the design and delivery process for its digital services.

As an interaction designer for Croydon Council, I’m excited to share with you how we’ve improved our design process through the introduction of Figma and a prototyping kit that we’ve developed. By doing so, we’ve not only achieved greater consistency and speed of our designs but it has also allowed us to provide a better user experience for our residents.

What is Figma?

Figma is a cloud-based design tool that allows designers to collaborate in real-time. It’s similar to Sketch and Adobe XD, but with additional features that make it ideal for designing interfaces and user experiences. It allows multiple designers to work on a design file simultaneously, making it easy for Croydon’s user centred design team to collaborate and make changes in real-time. Figma also has an interactive prototyping feature allows us to ensure that our designs are functional and meet the needs of our users.

Figma Prototyping Kit

It was my role to develop a prototyping kit that would allow our user-centred design team to work more efficiently and consistently. The kit includes pre-designed components and layouts that can be easily customised for different projects and needs. The kit has brought numerous benefits to Croydon Council and its user-centred design team.

Firstly, it has improved the consistency of our designs. By providing a set of pre-designed components, we’ve ensured that all designs adhere to a our digital design system, resulting in a better user experience.

Secondly, the prototyping kit has reduced design time from potentially hours to minutes. By providing pre-designed components, the user-centred design team no longer have to start from scratch every time they work on a new project, resulting in faster design iterations and ultimately reduced costs.

Finally, the prototyping kit has helped us to future-proof our designs. By providing a set of components that can be easily customised and reused, we’ve ensured that our designs will be scalable and adaptable to future changes.

Conclusion

I’m proud of the impact that Figma and our prototyping kit will have on Croydon Council and our team. By introducing Figma and developing a prototyping kit, we’ve drastically improved our design process which as a result will allow us to provided better user experiences. I believe that all organisations can benefit from investing in a collaborative design tool like Figma and developing a prototyping kit to streamline their design process.
