Croydon Digital drinks on the roof terrace

A perfect summer evening marked the relaunch of the Croydon Digital blog.

In the run-up to our most recent Croydon Digital Drinks on the rooftop of the council offices people kept asking me: “why are you doing a rooftop party when the weather has been miserable?”

Despite the unpredictable weather, I kept the faith that we’d have a proper June evening. But I have to admit that with 24 hours to go I made a plan B just in case rain stopped play (who else is watching the Cricket World Cup?)

Luckily my optimism was rewarded and an hour before we started the sun came out. It turned out to be the perfect evening to mark the occasion of our relaunched Croydon Digital site, with a beautiful backdrop of rooftop views of Croydon. I shared a pic with friends who thought I was away in a European city like Prague – check out the photos here.

I’m really glad we were joined by new friends as well as our regulars at the rooftop drinks. I met people from organisations that have existed in the area for years and a few up-and-comers, and some that I never even knew about.

I love that my job means helping the Croydon digital community grow and connecting people in my network, but I can only do that if I know who you are and what it is you do. That’s why one of my favourite parts of the new site is the directory of tech companies in the area. We want to show off the digital, data and tech companies in our borough regardless of whether you’re a one person band or a team of 50, or whether you’re a fresh start-up or an established brand. So, if you’re a tech business in the area please email me or Opama with your logo, website link and a one sentence summary of what you do, so we can share to the world how wonderful you are and help you and other local businesses to “buy local” from each other.

If you haven’t had a look around this new site, I can tell you that it’s a serious upgrade from before. It’s the place to be if you want to know about cool tech events happening in the area, who’s recruiting, and the wonderful companies our borough is home to. It will also be a great opportunity, not only to exchange services between tech businesses in Croydon, but also to get on the radar of outside companies looking in to see what all the fuss is about.

Croydon Digital drinks has been proving to be a popular and growing event, but we know for some people evenings (and Fridays in particular) aren’t ideal. So we’re launching Croydon Digital eats! We’re changing it up and planning breakfasts, lunches and dinners on different days, so more of you can get involved. A community is only as great as the people in it, after all.

Fingers crossed we can get to meet more of you – keep an eye on our events page and Meetup, and subscribe to updates on this blog.
